Take orders and bookings directly, without the marketplace cut

A direct ordering and booking layer for restaurants, breweries, venues and small inns, on top of the register or booking engine you keep. A Complete build, $9,850.

Schematic list of what is in a direct ordering and booking build

What it replaces

The marketplace sent the guest, then kept a cut

Third-party ordering and booking sites bring customers, then keep a percentage of every sale and hold the customer's contact details. Published rates run from 15% to 30% of an order on delivery plans and 10% to 25% of a stay on hotel sites (vendor-reported figures, checked 2026-10-15). The more you sell through them, the more you pay and the less you know.

A direct layer sits on top of the register or booking engine you keep. Guests order, book or ask about an event on your own site, the money goes to your processor, and the customer list is yours.

Some of this is a setting in the tool you already pay for, not a build. When it is, we say so.

What is in a direct ordering and booking build

Each line is written into your scope before you sign.

A direct ordering page

Menu, options and pickup times on your own site, with orders flowing into the register you run. We check what access your system gives outside developers before we quote.

A direct booking page beside your engine

For an inn or lodge: packages, add-ons and group requests your booking engine cannot sell, with the engine still holding rates and availability.

Private events and group inquiries

A form that checks your calendar, sends a priced quote with a valid-until date and takes the deposit by link. The inquiry lands with the right person.

Payments to your own account

Card payments go to your processor account. The processor bills its fee to you. We add no markup.

The staff view

Orders, bookings and deposits in one list your team works from, and a customer list that stays in accounts in your name.

What is not in the price

A second integration, moving an old customer list out of another system, and hosting. Hosting and upkeep are a care plan from $149 a month.

What it costs

One fixed price. Half at signing, half when your acceptance checklist passes.

Direct ordering and booking questions

Short answers. Rates are vendor-reported, not a quote for your account.

What do DoorDash, OpenTable and Booking.com really take?

Published figures we read on 2026-10-15: DoorDash 15%, 25% or 30% of an order by plan, and 6% on pickup. Booking.com 10% to 25%, about 15% on average, plus a payment fee. Eventbrite 3.7% plus $1.79 a ticket plus 2.9% of the order. OpenTable $149 to $499 a month plus $1 to $1.50 a cover on network bookings. A direct card payment costs about 3% to your processor either way.

How do I take direct bookings for a small inn?

Put a booking page on your own site that sends guests into the reservation engine you already pay for, and sell the packages and group requests the engine cannot. Before you promote a direct rate, read the rate-parity terms in your listing-site contracts, because some limit a lower direct price. We read them with you before we scope it.

Can I take online orders without Toast?

Yes. Square, Clover and others sell online ordering, and a layer on top of your register is another route. Toast's own add-ons list at about $75 a month for online ordering and $50 for loyalty (third-party summaries of its price list, checked 2026-10-16). If your register's ordering add-on does the job, buy it.

What stays with Toast or Square when I add a direct layer?

Your register, kitchen screens, payroll and tax reports. The direct layer takes the order or booking on your site and hands it to them. Some systems open their integrations through a partner program. If access is closed, the scope becomes a form plus an owner view, and we say so before the quote.

Does a direct layer pay for itself?

Cash alone rarely favors a build over a tool, so run your own numbers. A Complete build with a year of the Essential care plan is $11,638 in year one. For an inn, a booking moved from a 15% listing site to a direct page that costs about 4.5% all in saves roughly 10.5 cents a dollar, so about $110,800 of bookings would need to move to break even in year one (vendor-estimated rates). For a venue that rents rooms at $6,500 to $10,000, recovering about one or two rentals covers the year.

Who owns the customer list?

You do. Customer contact details live in accounts in your name, not in a marketplace. The custom code is yours, with a runbook so another developer could take over.
