About Benchford

A software studio in Lyons, Colorado, where the builder answers your email

Benchford publishes its prices, builds on a fixed price, hosts what it builds and looks after it. Tyler Rice runs it from Lyons.

Why the name

A bench is where things are built by hand, measured twice and cut once. A ford is the shallow crossing, the practical way across the river without a bridge project.

Together they say what we are: a workshop that gets you across. The mark is a plank laid across a trestle with water running under it.

How we work

Six habits, none of them clever.

Publish the price

You see the number before the first call, not after three.

Write the date

The ship date goes in the contract before the build starts.

Pay for what passes

Half at signing. Half when your acceptance checklist passes.

You own it

The custom code and your data live in accounts in your name.

Say when a tool will do

If a tool at $16 to $50 a month does the job, we tell you and the call ends there.

Answer the email

The person who builds it is the person you talk to.

Built on a platform we license

What sits under the work.

Benchford builds on the Plerity platform, which we license from Plerity, Inc. and maintain for your build.

The platform supplies the building blocks, such as sign-in, documents, scheduling and hosting. That is why a Focused build can be $4,950 instead of being written from nothing.

The custom code written for you is yours, and so is your data, in accounts in your name with a runbook another developer could follow. The platform components stay licensed, and your contract names each one.

Why Lyons

Lyons sits where the North and South St. Vrain meet and come down out of the mountains. It is a small town with a long habit of making things.

We work from here, by phone and video, for owner-run businesses across Boulder County, Longmont, the Denver metro and Fort Collins.
